If someone tells you that, they are not in love with you and don't want to hurt you, so that is the kind way to "break up" with someone. If somthing specific didn't happen, chances are, they have met someone else who has gotten their attention and had sparked a flame. Of course this is my opinion to your question, but I feel I have been in enough relationships and have known so many people in relationships in my 41 years. I am very confident in my answer. If you have mixed feelings about someone, I'd be best to just be friends until you get those feelings straightened. You never wanna be in a relationship you're unsure about. So until you know what you want, I think you two should just stay friends.
