Charles Whitman was a young man who was a student at the University of Texas. He was known as a good man by many people and had no history of violence. He then began to experience severe headaches , he assaulted his wife, and became involved in numerous fights. He had told his psychiatrist that he was fighting the urge towards even more extreme violent behaviour. On Aug 1, 1966 after killing his wife and mother, he climbed up onto his campus observation tower and with a high-powered rifle he killed 16 people and 32 were injured. The police shot and killed Charles that day during his frenzy. They had performed an autopsy on his body and they found a large tumor that was pressing against his brain.
Charles Whitman was responsible for the infamous Texas Tower shooting in 1966, where he killed 16 people. His actions have been widely condemned as a tragic act of violence and a significant event in the history of mass shootings in the United States. Whitman's case has been studied to better understand the factors leading to such extreme acts of violence.
Not the evil killing machine everyone makes him out to be. The brain tumor had a lot to do with his actions and can account for his impulsive shooting.
