I think so. German stock market
New Amsterdam was founded for the Dutch West India Company for the sole purpose of profit(thru trade) The colony of New Amsterdam was founded by the Dutch West India Company, hoping to find as much profit as the Dutch East India Company did in the spice trade. The only trade item developed by the colony was furs from the indians. The company blundered in developing the colony for settlers so that populaton growth was very slow, resulting in little production of agricultural products or manufactured goods that could be shipped back to Holland. It was almost a mercy to have the place stolen away by the British after several decades of mismangangement.
i think they are privately owned, therefore not traded in the stock market
It is not a publicly traded company. HSC is owned by Dow Chemical and some other company who is Japanese I think.
The French and Dutch colonists traded fur. Samuel de Champlain explored the St. Lawrence River. In 1608, he founded a fur-trading post in Quebec.
Silk was traded for... i think gold :)
The company is not always the property of the shareholders. The company is in part the property of the shareholders if it is a publicly traded company.
Well, I have the same question. I think they may have fought for the land or traded. But please do not quote me. If you find the answer, please let me know.
Here is my theory on the matter...Shell is a Dutch companyI think "B.V." stands for "Besloten Vennootschap" which is Dutch for "Limited Company".
If you are talking about the outdoors company, Patagonia, I don't think there is a symbol because it isn't publicly owned or traded... Yvon Chouinard, the company's founder, owns 100% of his company and can do things like donate as much of his profits as he wants to environmental organizations, etc. If it was publicly owned and traded I don't think they would be able to do things like that. But that's just what I thought of as I was trying to find the stock symbol for the company.
The reason Henry Hudson went exploring is because he was hired by the Dutch East India Company in 1609. He was hired and paid to find a northeast passage to Asia so it'll be easier to trade with the Asians.
