Only Dave could say for sure, but after listening to what Dave has said about those who fear the "worst case scenario" in our country (like Porter does), I don't think he would be a supporter of Porter's. That's not to say that Porter's research isn't based on sound logic. But what it does suggest is that Dave tends to focus on having a positive outlook in general and not allowing fear to drive decision-making--especially as it relates to how you handle your money.

Though we can never predict the future, Dave accurately points out that our country has been through some very tumultuous times in the past, and yet has survived through every crisis we have faced. Think about how bad things were during the Great Depression, and yet we still not only came through that tough time, but flourished in the years to follow. Even further back, how unstable must the Civil War have felt to live through? The U.S. is no stranger to tough times, but we have proven in our short existence to be a country that always ends up back on its feet.

All that to say, Porter could actually be correct in his dire predictions of where America will be in the near term, yet I'm fairly certain Dave would still stick to the premise that we as a nation always find a way to weather the storm, and that we should not resort to "following the herd" in a major crisis--especially since statistically that's precisely how people lose money. Besides, if the dollar does crash, it will create such a massive ripple effect across many nations (just like it did in 1929), that no matter what protective measures you attempt, a large majority of the world population will have much bigger problems than where we are now of worrying about what our 401K balance is. I think we can all use a good reminder that though there are a lot of gray clouds in our skies, we still live in a pretty freaking privileged country. That's what I think Dave would say.
