Insert Function in Excel allows you to enter a function into your worksheet. You can choose your function from different categories fo functions. It will also give you a little help on the function so that you can use it in the correct way.
Insert Function allows you to choose a function from the ones that Excel provides and insert it into a cell. You can choose the function from the ones that are available by category or by typing it in if you know the function you want.
It allows you to put a function into a cell, and gives you some assistance as you do it, like what parts the function has and what has to go into them.
The TODAY function returns the current date when the function is executed. That would be when you open the document or when you insert the function for the first time in a cell.
You can use the Insert Function button fx on the Formula bar to find an Excel function by typing a description of the formula at the Insert Function dialog box, in the Search for a function text box and then click Go.
When you choose the Insert Function command and then pick a function to use, it will appear so that you can type arguments into it.

There is no function of that name in Excel. There is a function called VLOOKUP which stands for Vertical Lookup, and is probably what you mean.

If you go to Insert Function, you will find it in the Statistical Functions category. You can also get it through the Autosum in versions from 2007 onwards.
Fx represents functions. It is on the Formula Bar and on the Insert Function Button. Clicking on it starts the process of allowing you to enter a function.
The Insert Function dialog box contains a list of predefined functions available in Excel. Click the Insert Function box, and in the search bar, type in a description of what you want to do. Click OK, and then browse through the functions. If you already know the name of a function, choose it from the box.
You can enter them by just typing them in with the keyboard. You can also use the Insert Function facility.
You can use the clipboard in Excel. It is a facility as opposed to a traditional function, like the SUM function or AVERAGE or MAX and other functions that are built in to Excel.
