Salt water fish are taking in saltwater constantly, drinking the water and excreting salt. That is why most cannot survive in freshwater; they are still excreting the same amount of salt but not taking in the same amount. This causes their condition to steadily deteriorate, usually resulting in death.
Most Saltwater Fish cannot survive in freshwater, however, there are fish that can survive in fresh, brackish (an even mixture of salt and fresh water), and salt water. They biologically adjust to which ever water they happen to be in at the time. Some sharks like the great white, tiger and, yes, the bull shark, fall under the category of fish that can survive in all water conditions.
Bull sharks can live in both ocean waters and also in fresh water rivers, estuaries, and lakes for some time. They can do this because of their own special ability to adapt the process of 'osmoregulation'. Osmoregulation is the ability of an organism to maintain a constant concentration of water in its body even when its outside environment would normally cause it to loose or gain water. Freshwater and saltwater fish both osmoregulate. But bull sharks can adapt their osmoregulatory processes to survive in a broad range of water salinities, from the salt water of the ocean to the fresh water of a lake.
Some can, most can't. Some that can are salmon which swim up rivers to spawn as adults and certain sharks, like the bull shark, that can survive lengthy periods in freshwater.
You will not find the usual sharks in Lake Tahoe. However, there could be bull sharks in there because they can survive in fresh water, and they have been known to attack.
they are the only freshwater sharks
No the salmon and bull and sometimes the blue shark swim in freshwater sometimes.
no because bull sharks are in mini rivers
bull sharks are sometimes found in the mississippy
the bull shark is found all over the world
no because they lives in freshwater or saltwater
There are some sharks that can live in freshwater environments, but there aren't a lot that can cross over and live in both. The Bull shark is one that has been shown to have the ability to live in both saltwater and freshwater. Interestingly, they have to produce 20 times more urine when living in freshwater. (See the related link for more about Bull Sharks' freshwater tolerance.)
No, they could not survive on land for even a few minutes.
bull sharks are in the Mississippi river and therefor they are in Wisconsin. Bull sharks are abundant in the lower Mississippi River and are also found in Minnesota up the Mississippi. Bull sharks have also been reported in an attack in Lake Michigan, possibly up the St. Lawrence River from saltwater to freshwater.
Not for long.Only the bull shark has evolved to live in fresh or saltwater.
