Depends on the dog. Some may wreck your home and get into things they shouldn't and may urinate or little hockey pucks around the house because they are generally ticked off you've left them. Most dogs sleep a lot, look out the window, gnaw on a chew bone, chase their tail or if you have two dogs they may play with each other. Mostly, they're just waiting for you to come home. Oh my, what a loyal friend dogs really are!
Chickens are awake and ready to start their day just before dawn. This means the farmer must be up before the sun. The birds need to be given food and fresh water. If they are free range hens they need to be released from the coop where they spent the night in safety. The chicken coop is often cleaned out first thing in the morning and fresh straw placed in the nesting boxes. Debris and manure is removed from the coop and disposed of. Eggs are collected at least twice per day in hot weather and when the temperature is below freezing. Water is checked during the day and in the evening, a final check for eggs, clean water is provided and a small amount of feed is given to the hens before they roost for the night. Once the flock has gathered in the chicken coop for the night, the coop is locked down and secured from predators for the night.
The day starts early on a chicken farm. Before the break of day most farmers are up to prepare for work. When hens are free range they need to be given fresh food and water after being in the chicken coop all night. The building they are in needs to be opened up and the birds released into the yard. Nests are checked for eggs laid overnight and the eggs are gathered. The roosts (sleeping area) needs to be cleared of manure and fresh straw or wood chips needs to be spread. Depending on the size of the flock this could take from a couple of hours to all morning. Any sick hens need to be taken care of including medicine given or injuries doctored. If the day is very hot or below freezing, the eggs need to be gathered a second time. Later in the day, feed needs to be brought into the barn, straw and other bedding needs to be prepared and nesting boxes cleaned. Before dark, the birds need to be closed up into the coop to protect them from nighttime predators, more feed and fresh water supplied for overnight use. This needs to happen 7 days per week, even on holidays.

The plural of chicken is chickens. For example: The farmer fed the chickens each morning.
Bring the chicken to the farmer to the right of the covered bridge. He can use the chicken to eat the bugs that are killing his corn crop. As a reward, the farmer gives you the Blue Candle, which you can use for the parchment at the Governor's house (farther right).
