A mosque is any type building which is used for Islamic worshiping. The mosque is used for mostly praying but it also holds Islamic classes where people can go to and learn more about their religion. and meet other believers A mosque is the Centre point of the community for the Muslims living in that are, it is there so Muslims feel as thought they have there own recognition and have a peaceful place to pray and devote themselves to Allah. " If you build a mosque for Allah's sake. He will build for you a place in paradise" (Saying of Muhammad) This illustrates that If you build a mosque for good intentions Allah would reward you in after life. You have to do it for Allah. There are many features of the mosque such as domes, minarets and large prayer halls. Domes are very large and are mostly above the largest prayer hall. Traditionally the domes were used so that the Imaam would be more successful in projecting his voice as the sound bounces in and out of the dome making the voice more louder. But as time has progressed modern technology has come out and imaams usually use the microphone to call the prayer. But although the dome is not needed anymore to project voice, it is still a significant recognisable symbol of a mosque. Although mosques are not built to a certain way or it doesn't say how it should look like, apart some a few points it is build based on how the person wants it to be built Minarets are tall towers which are usually situated around the mosque. The minarets were mostly used to call believers to prayer as it was the highest point of the mosque more people would be able to hear. The mihraab indicates the direction of the kaaba in Mecca in a mosque. This is so that everybody knows what direction they should pray in, as all Muslims pray towards the kaaba. A minbar is where the imaam sits for discussions, because this is at a high stand it emphasizes the contact between the imaam and the audience. Prayer halls are very plain, it has no sort of furniture but just prayer mats where believers would pray, in the prayer hall the prayer mats usually face towards the mihraab so people know exactly in which direction the praying and make them feel as if they're prying towards Mecca. the three most famous mosques in order are : 'the great mosque' this surrounds the qabah and Muslims all over the world visit it, it is the focal point for Muslims The second greatest mosque is called 'the prophets mosque' it is located in Madina and has Muhammad's house engraved inside it is compulsory to visit it. Lastly it is the 'dome or rock'; its in Jerusalem Muhammad was magically taken there to prayed in the Mosque and then he passed away. "A persons prayer mat is his mosque" This shows that It doesn't matter if you cant build a mosque but as long as you have good intentions and you want to concentrate on your prayer, a clean place is good enough. Some people decide to build mosques to be proud about the money they have spent to make it beautiful, but it isn't good to boast in Islam , but as long as good intentions are in mind Allah will know. Modern mosque these days have many facilities such as separate washrooms for men and woman to do wudu. A dome represent the heavens and skies. A library to increase knowledge about Islam. A part time school for children. And also a kitchen where food can be prepared for Ramadan. mosques are important to Muslims because Muhammad built a Mosque after he prayed on a Friday, this is why many Muslims go to pray on a Friday at the mosque. its important for many reasons because it helps bring people together and helps them learn more about there religion and also gains them reward , if they pray as a group it is called a sunnah. It allows people to learn from each other and learn and support each other, also to celebrate happy festivals such as weddings and Eid. When entering a mosque it is vital to have clean clothes on and the body should be washed. Women should be fully covered and men to be covered from the naval and below. also shoes are taken of before entering the prayer hall where men and women pray separately.
