Pictures of a specific coin are difficult to come by. Frequently you should be able to find one on eBay, but the picture is withdrawn after the coin is sold.

The 1847 British Crown (Five Shillings) is 0.925 fine silver coin weighing 28.35 grams and is 38 mm in diameter.

The coin is known as a "Gothic" Crown due to the style of inscription around the edges.

The obverse has a left facing, crowned, young Queen Victoria with the inscription "Victoria dei gratia britanniar reg f d".

The reverse has Crowned cruciform Shields with emblems in the angles. The inscription reads "TUEATUR UNITA DEUS ANNO DOM MDCCCXLVII" with the date in Roman numerals.

The edge inscription reads "Undecimo".

NOTE - The reverse of these coins is upside down to the obverse. This is normal.

There are two types of British 1887 Florin, the earlier "Gothic" Florin and the later "Jubilee" bust Florin.

The 1881 "Gothic" Florin is nearly identical to the 1887 coin. The date is in lower case Roman numerals on the obverse.

There are no 1827 Victoria coins. The first coins bearing Queen Victoria's image were issued in 1838.

How do you determine which grade my 1993 American silver eagle coin is?

By looking for wear. In practice, it doesn't matter what grade your silver eagle is, it will simply sell for bullion. The only thing to look is if your coin is proof or bullion. A proof coin will have mirror-like fields where you can see yourself like a mirror. An uncirculated coin may look shiny but it won't be nearly as shiny as a proof.

Is there any silver in a proof 1976 s half dollar?

It is possible, but it depends on which set your coin was in. If your coin is in a standard proof set, it contains no silver. On the other hand, if your coin is in a 3 coin silver proof set with the dollar, half and quarter it is 40% silver. If your coin is loose, you should be able to look at the edge, if it is silver it will usually look more white compared to the non-silver version which will have a stripe of bright red (or sometimes pink) copper.

How do you know if a 1936 standing liberty half dollar is a proof?

First, look for a mintmark. If there is a "D" or "S" on the reverse by the branch the eagle is standing on, there is no possible way you have a proof coin. But then, I'd take it to a coin shop making sure not to touch it and they should be able to tell you. Chances are, you don't have a proof, but if you do have a proof coin it should have mirror like fields (the part of the coin where there is no design). If it does turn out you have an actual proof coin and not just a high grade example, it can be worth a substantial amount of money, $25,000-75,000 or so.

Whats a proof coin?

A proof coin is a coin that is struck on specially prepared blanks by specially prepared and polished dies and is usually struck at least twice to make sure the coin strikes up fully. When looking at a proof coin, there usually are mirror-like fields (parts of the coin that are left blank) and on most modern proofs the design looks "frosted" (although, some earlier proofs do not have this "frosted", cameo look to them). The best way to be able to distinguish between proof, uncirculated and polished (keep in mind that polished coins are NOT desirable to collectors and is considered to be damaged!) is to go to your local coin and bullion shop and compare them. It is quite hard to describe in words how the 3 coins look different, but after studying the 3, they all look quite different.

How do you tell if your American silver eagle is a pf70 or not?

You can't unless you pay the $20+ to send your coin to NGC/PCGs even under magnification the ordinary person cannot tell the difference between a pf69 and pf70 coin. Of course, it is easy to tell if your coin is uncirculated or proof, a proof silver eagle will have very shiny, mirror like fields that are easy to see yourself in. An uncirculated silver eagle will be shiny, but won't be mirror like. Also, the raised part of the coin will look frosted on a proof coin but not on an uncirculated coin.

How do you know if a 1981 proof set is 's'?

If you look on the "heads" side of the coin and look at the cent just below the date. You should see a "raised" or bump on the coin. That's the letter "s", which stands for Sanfranciso's mint mark.
