verb (used with object), verb (used without object) 1. to know; understand. adjective 3. shrewdly informed; experienced and well-informed; canny. "Savvy" is slang derived f…rom the French word "savoir", which means "to know". It can be used in many ways, to refer to 'intelligence' or specifically to 'street smarts', as in "Don't worry about him, he'll be alright, he is pretty savvy". Means, he knows what is going on, or catches on quickly, kind of idea. When it doesn't refer to intelligence, it usually refers to 'understanding'. For example, in his "Pirates of the Caribbean" series movies, Johnny Depp's character "Captain Jack Sparrow" constantly asks 'Savvy?' to people, after he has explained something. In this context it means, 'do you understand?' or, "Ya know?"

To live in a world in which to coexist with humans, somehow filling an empty void in our collective psyche by naturally providing us with company, service and unbreakable loya…lty. In response, most of us welcome their comfort, and feel they are deserving of our loving and caring. Additionally, to professional trainers, owners and breeders, they bring a sense of pride and accomplishment. To many others, however, they fulfill a very dark but very human urge to be violent and inflict cruelty and domination over other creatures, be it human or animal. So, in reality, the meaning of a Dog or a Cat's life lies somewhere in between what their natural instincts tell them to do, and the character of the person in whose hands their life happens to fall in.
