Sometimes giving the opposite to contrast a term helps to define its value or meaning: This is what a gentle spirit is not:contentious (inclined to argue), bitter, unstable, troubled, fearful, loud, obnoxious, worry prone, prone to cursing, quick to get angry, easily dismayed, easily upset, emotionally unbalanced, careless, impatient, doubtful, foolish, abrupt, irritable, proud, insensitive, self-absorbed, self-seeking, over confident, and with a low-self esteem. The term refers to a kind, humble, quiet, meek, submissive type of behaviour. These words obviously aren't from Webster, but you see what I mean. It is the attitude of love displayed especially in well refined Christian women. It is not an individual spirit like the Holy Spirit or anything, although it is a side effect of being indwelt by God's Holy Spirit. A gentle spirit doesn't mean the individual is submissive at all. As the above poster said they are kind, humble (not necessarily meek) and some can love to joke and make people laugh. A gentle spirit is one that is there for people without question and has a wise and tender wisom about them.
