I belive it should look like a dark red/black mess.
Mine was white until a few minuites ago when I realised that it was food (EUGH)
Now its the redish colour, which I'm presuming is the blood clot.

∙ 12y agoImmediately afterwards, it should have exactly the shape of your tooth with a gelatinous clot all the way to the surface.
As time goes by, the clot may turn white or brown and taste like.... well it tastes like sucking on a scab! You shouldn't be able to see IN the socket though... at least not for a few days.

∙ 10y agoIt should be in the outline shape of your tooth, filled with a nice red blood clot. After a day or so the clot will discolour and turn white or brown. Nothing to worry about.
Depending on how careful you are, after about a week, you will start to wear down the clot due to drinking, eating, swallowing, breathing etc.. The gums will start to grow over and you will have a hole that will close up over time.

It is not necessarily dry socket. If the pain feels the same, chances are, that side is just healing slower. If the pain gets worse, or is still as bad tomorrow, see your dentist. Since you say it isn't terrible, the fact that only one side hurts does not indicate dry socket.
