Disciple is a word for follower. A disciple was one who learned the Scriptures and was able to lead others. The first disciples chosen by Jesus Christ are referred to as "the Disciples of Christ". After Christ left, these Disciples became the Apostles of the Christian church.

The word Apostle in the church history is one who went out and established new churches where none existed.
