Nothing, really. The 4wd indicator light may or may not light up, but in a 2wd truck, it has no function.
It's just a part of the "mass production" manufacturing process. 2wd and 4wd trucks use most of the same parts, especially their bodies and chassis, so, in many cases, the manufacturer uses a single part (in this case, a dash panel) which will be functional in either model of truck. This way, they can save costs by just having one particular part to manufacture and store, and they can have just one assembly line for truck bodies instead of two.
This also allows manufacturers to more easily and cheaply react to consumer demand.
