Why is marriage important to Christians?

There are as many different expectations in marriage as there are married couples. It isn't simply a matter of what religious doctrine demands in a book. == == The Bible refers to a Christian's relationship as a bride and groom so the fundamental part is that marriage is meant to be. God also created a woman in order to complete man so that also supports the marriage part. So goes the saying, "God created Adam and Eve not Adam and Steve"

True christians believe that a marriage is a life long thing with one partner only. Or u ntil death do us part.
they believe marriage is between a man and women. that sex is a gift from god for marriage not outside of it. that gay marriage is wrong but you shouldn't judge anyone based on how they live or believe. as a christian i was not raised to believe it was wrong they don't preach against it, it is just expressed marriage is ment to be between a man and women. judgments are formed individually and not as a faith. christians are supposed to aid the suffering guide the confused and raise the fallen not judge and bash or force there beliefs on others. we mayy not agree with some decisions but will not judge you by them
Christians believe that marriage is a beautiful sacrament in which two people choose to unite themselves not only in heart, but in spirit and in commitment. Because they show affection for one another, through marriage they commit to be loyal to each other.

There are, as you would expect, many links, (see below left) and the information isn't all in agreement. It seems that most data suggest Christians experience divorce more frequently than atheists and agnostics, but in fairness, a more complete survey would seem to be in order. Just as it would be difficult to interpret the data if Christian groups had a rate a few per cent lower than other groups, it's not entirely clear why these groups seem to have rates that are a few per cent higher. It seems like a reasonable working hypothesis, though, based on the evidence, that marriage probably doesn't have a significantly different meaning (or source of authority or strength) than marriages of any kind, including those in atheist and agnostic relationships.

• Monogamous man/woman marriage with divorce as an option
• Plural marriages with many wives
• Same sex marriages

For some in Christianity, beginning in Genesis, God revealed that marriage was a special union between a man and woman because, that was the way to have children. Sexual intercourse between a male and female united in marriage produced children within a safe, family structure. However, the benefits of traditional marriage extend far beyond our merely reproducing the human race. There is a spiritual significance to marriage.

The Bible tells us that God's plan is to create a family and He is allowing us to take part in that plan (see John 1:10-12; Acts 17:28-29; Ephesians 3:14-15; Hebrews 2:10, etals). Both Paul and John continues on this theme of God creating mankind to be part of His eternal family (see 2 Corinthians 6:17-18; Revelation 21:7).

Just as a human family reflects God's plan to have a family, human marriage also reflects a spiritual relationship. Human marriage is modeled after the relationship between Jesus Christ and the Church (see Ephesians 5:25-33).

John, in the Book of Revelation recorded the relationship of marriage between a man and a woman to our potential relationship between Christ and the Church in a very special marriage: "Let us be glad and rejoice and give Him glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and His wife has made herself ready.' And to her it was granted to be arrayed in fine linen, clean and bright, for the fine linen is the righteous acts of the saints. Then he said to me, 'Write: "Blessed are those who are called to the marriage supper of the Lamb!" (Revelation:19:7-9).

Our human marriages are patterned after this spiritual relationship, helping us comprehend this present and future God-plane relationship. Just as a husband and wife become 'one' in physical marriage, so all who repent, get baptized and following Christ to the end, will become one with Him and the Father (John 17:22-23).
