Why does methadone make you feel like passing out?

I was a heroin user for 10 years and when i decided enough was enough, I went on to methadone I started off on 90 mill used that does for about a month,then took it down to 40 mill,I was advised against this but thought I'd manage and wanted myself off it,it didn't affect me and i was fine,I dropped 10 mill every month again this did not affect my sleep pattern etc It's been 14 months since I started using methadone and I'm now on 4 mill not a lot I know some days I don't take it and have not done so now for 6 days,I have been fine apart from my feet nothing to much,it's something I can handle.

You are very unique, kicking (detoxing) methadone is way harder than heroin, heroin detox is like a bad FLU, with the sleepless nights, tossing and turning, hot & cold flashes, mood swings, diarrhea, no energy, every nerve stands on end, libido is shot. But the up side is it ONLY lasts 3-5 days, then GO TO MEETINGS, I cannot stress the importance of meetings which should start before the Detox. No macho bull, no, I can kick on my own, U can't, without help from people that been there. I been there, Heroin user for 15 years and I'm only 35. Been on Methadone for 3 years, switched over to suboxene, gradually detoxing and going to meetings, plan to be drug free before I turn 37.

A slow detox on Methadone can take 6 months to a couple of years, 21-day detox DOES NOT WORK. Big Pharma got us hook, line and sinker, but we can win.

***DON'T TAKE METHADONE RECREATIONALLY*** *****Methadone is not a good "recreational" drug. It has too many side effects and is deadly in combination with certain other drugs. It also has a long lasting effect, you can't just keep taking more and more to try to get high, because before you feel it totally, you can easily take a fatal dose........But when taken as prescribed for opiate addiction, it can be a life saver. That said, for me, methadone made me high at first, but as I adjusted to it, I just had this comfortable feeling of contentment, no high, just a feeling like I was finally normal and felt "happy" like a normal person would. It corrected a lot of my depressed moods and anxiety. I also take effexor for depression and I have OCD, so maybe my brain is wired differently, but I like the way I function on it.

Yes it does. Makes you feel great. Kind of like opioid high but different. Much more energetic than the pills make you feel. I'm on 60 mg per day and i don't even think about pills anymore. I am so much happier and feel generally good about myself. I feel it takes a couple hours to get really good feeling on the Methadone.

If you get drowsy or feel like passing out while taking methadone, this usually means that you are taking too much. Talk to your doctor about adjusting your medication if these symptoms occur.

Methadone will not usually make a person feel a stimulant effect. Of course everyone will have a different experience with the effects of methadone, feeling like you are on speed from it is rare. I was on methadone for 3 years and never did I feel like I was on speed. I also never heard of anyone else feeling like they were on speed from methadone. So to say it makes you feel like you are on speed in inaccurate for most people. And to top it off, methadone is a depressant, which if the complete opposite of speed, which is a stimulant. The only thing I can possibly thing of is that you have a fast metabolism and are getting more of a "high" from methadone due to it quickly absorbing into your system but even then the effects of that high are not long and will wear off usually making you tired.
