What does sticky keys do?

There are people with limited use of their fingers who can't hold down more than one key at a time. This makes it hard for them to issue a Print (command-P) or New Document (command-N) command, or Cut (command-X), Copy (command-C) and Paste (command-V) things into place.

Sticky Keys makes the computer think the modifier keys (shift, command, option, control, alt) are held down until you push the key they're modifying. So...if you want to do Print Setup in Acrobat (command-shift-P) you can push the command key, the shift key and the P one at a time rather than having to hold them all down at once.

The purpose of the sticky keys feature is to allow key combinations that involve special keys like Control, Alt and Shift to be used without having to hold down two keys at a go. The feature can be accessed from Ease of Access.

Sticky Keys is an accessibility feature to help a computer user who has physical disabilities. It essentially serialized keystrokes instead of having to press multiple keys at the same time which makes pressing combinations of keys a lot easier because the keys remain active until any other key is pressed.

StickyKeys is designed for people who have difficulty holding down two or more keys at a time. When a shortcut requires a key combination such as Ctrl+P, StickyKeys allows you to press one key at a time instead of pressing them simultaneously.

Some people have trouble holding 2 or more keys down at the same time, eg ALT+CTRL+DEL so that's one place where they are useful.
