Tilly is used by middle-aged Americans who were between the ages of 10 - 30 in the late 1970s. When the first ATMs debuted, some banks marketed them as an "anytime available bank teller.". At least one bank in the southeast US jingled "It is is Tilly the all-time bank teller." Many people would say "I need to run to the Tilly machine.". Now, the word is returning into public lexicon in casino Poker rooms. Where slang such as "donkey" is used to describe a poor poker player, 'Tilly' is being used by older players in place of "ATM" to describe a player who plays too loose and readily gives their money away to other players due to poor play.
