lots of damage was done and it was very costly... over $100 billion in repair, rescue, and getting rid of the water from flooding. Lots of people lost their homes and their lives or relative's lives, and lots of animal's habitats were damaged and some animals died.

The hurricane caused 53 different levee breaches in greater New Orleans and submerged 80% of the city. The hurricane took 1,836 lives and 705 people have been categorized as missing. It left approximately 1,000,000 people without electricity and is described as "probably the worst catastrophe, or set of catastrophes" in the country's history. It made landfall on the coast of Louisiana at about 6:45am CST on August 29th, 2005 and was considered to be a category 3 hurricane with sustained winds estimated to be 127 mph. It was responsible for one death as far north as Kentuckey due to drowning and even 2 deaths as far north as Ohio. It caused an estimated $2 billion in damages. Before crossing the Gulf of Mexico and making landfall in Louisiana, Katrina crossed the southern tip of Florida where it was responsible for 14 deaths. Nearly a million people fled New Orleans on August 28th, the day before it hit but about 100,000 people decided to ride it out and stay through it. About 10,000 people attemted to seek refuge at the Superdome which had only been prepared for 800. 30,000 people eventually showed up there but had to make an emergency evacuation.
