Greenhouse gases stop heat from escaping the atmosphere. This natural greenhouse effect has kept our planet warm for millions of years. The earth's carbon and water cycles move carbon dioxide and water vapor in and out of the atmosphere constantly.

Greenhouse gases (any gas with 3 or more atoms) will trap the sun's infrared radiation (heat) being radiated by the Earth's surface, and prevent it from escaping back into space. This heat from the warmed up gases is also re-radiated in all directions, including back down to the earth's surface, which warms some more.

At present man-made greenhouse gases, carbon dioxide (CO2) and methane, are causing an accelerated greenhouse effect. The natural carbon cycle is unable to cope with the extra CO2 which remains in the atmosphere gathering heat, and causing global warming.

A:The more greenhouse gases there are, the worse the heating gets.

The greenhouse effect is the process by which thermal radiation from a planetary surface is absorbed by atmospheric greenhouse gases, and is re-radiated in all directions.Since part of this re-radiation is back towards the surface and the lower atmosphere,it results in an elevation of the average surface temperature above what it would be in the absence of gases.

Greenhouse gases trap heat that would normally escape into space. This makes the atmosphere and the earth warmer. This warmth, all round the world, is melting ice, raising sea levels, giving more energy into storms, causing heat waves and killing people.

Greenhouse gases trap heat in the atmosphere of the Earth. As a direct result of this, the temperature of the Earth is significantly increased compared to what is normal.

What would be the temperature on the earth with greenhouse gases?

The earth's overall temperature with greenhouse gases is 76442 degrees F.

How is the climate affected by the greenhouse gases?

Greenhouse gases can be very hot, so once they get out into the air, the climate gets hotter.

What greenhouse gases do in the atmosphere?

Greenhouse gases keep the earth warm.Too much greenhouse gas is causing global warming.

How has the greenhouse effect affected our climate?

The enhanced greenhouse effect is happening because we are adding additional carbon dioxide and methane to the atmosphere. These greenhouse gases trap in heat from the sun making the earth warmer.

Pedict how the temperature on Earth would be affected if the amount of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere changed?

The higher you go, the less dense it would get

How do greenhouse gases affect the earths atmosphere?

They slow the loss of heat

Do greenhouse gases trap heat near the earth's surface?

Yes, greenhouse gases trap heat in the troposphere, which is the lowest layer of the earth's atmosphere.

Can greenhouse gases be beneficial to life on earth?

Yes, greenhouse gases are part of the natural greenhouse effect. The gases absorb the heat coming off the surface of the earth and become warm. This warming has kept the earth warm enough for life for millions of years.

How are greenhouses gases helpful?

Greenhouse gases are helpful because they keep the earth warm enough for life. Too much greenhouse gases warm the earth up too much.

What if you did not have greenhouse gas?

If there were no greenhouse gases the earth could not support life. Greenhouse gases are naturally occurring and allow heat to be retained within the atmosphere.

What substances trap heat from the earth in?

Water vapor, carbon dioxide, methane, ozone and nitrous oxide. They are known as 'greenhouse gases'.

How do you use the words 'greenhouse gases' in a sentence?

Greenhouse gases are naturally occurring gases but by increasing the concentrations of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere we are contributing to global warming.
