That depends on the type of camping and where you camp. If it is a camping trip to an established campground where you can drive there, then you need to think of home. Really. What do you need at home? Shelter: a tent. Food and a way to prepare it and store it. Things for cooking and eating, ie cooking utensils, pots pans, eating utensils, dish washing items, cooking means (stove, charcoal, matches, fire etc.) Warmth and comfort: clothes, rain gear, bug repellant, soap, towel, etc) When camping you basicly need everything that you need at home to survive but scaled down. I said things that you NEED to SURVIVE, not just want to have. Remember that you are getting away from the things of the world to an extent. Leave the XBox at home. If you are going to be backpacking then you need only the basics and things that you can carry in and carry back out. Are you going to be fishing? Are there toilets? Do you need toilet paper? Is there a store where you can get supplies? Have you packed food that won't spoil? The best thing that I have found is to sit down with a pad and paper and run through your mind what you will do during the day. Shower, eat breakfast, fish, eat lunch, hike, swim, eat dinner, and the list goes on. Now write down what you need for each thing on your list. Then see what you have to have and what you can do without. Don't forget to plan on rain or bad weather. Many a camping trip has been ruined due to poor planning and bad weather. I have heard, and always say, "Remember the 6 P's. Propper Prior Planning Prevents Poor Performance." And remember that you need to tell someone where you are going and when you should get back. This at least lets them know where to start searching if you don't come back on schedule.
