There are many different genera of parrot.

  • In the order Psittaciformes, there are 86 different genera.
  • The family Nestoridae, (parrots of New Zealand) has two genera, Nestor (the famous alpine Kea parrots) and Strigops (the fat, flightless Kakapo parrot).
  • Family Cacatuidae, cockatoos and cockatiels, has 7 genera.
