Some scientists think that at the end of the Younger Dryas age, something exploded over the icecap that was covering the great lakes at that time (12,000 Years ago) They have found nano diamonds that indicate a major meteor or comet strike dated to the age you are questioning. If you take a straight edge and place it along the axis of the Carolina Bays (Oval like depressions in South Carolina) they all follow along a path that leads towards the Great Lakes. Something happened around 12,500 years ago in North America that took out all the major flora and fauna on the continent and changed the weather worldwide. I imagine it probably changed the course of many rivers when it came into the atmosphere and exploded above the icecap. Which is the very reason why there is no crater. The ice was a buffer between the comet/asteroid and the ice crater melted along with the icecap. If you did a little deeper into the matter, you'll find a bowl like depression under the more southern lakes made from a material called diorite. It begins with the Niagara escarpment and leads down under the lakes. To get Diorite to melt enough to be forming a huge bowl 2/3rds of the way under the great lake would have take immense power and almost unbelievable temperatures. Diorite is the hardest known rock known to man with the exception of Diamond! To create heat massive enough to melt this miles deep Diorite into a bowl shape over 600 miles across must have been some kind of a party. I hope this helps kind of helps
