The USS Charelston took Guam's 54 Spanish Soldiers and 54 Militia in a bloodless campaign. The Spanish garrison was unaware that they were at War. Intelligence informed the Charelston's skipper that he would be facing no less than a 1,000 Spanish troops, various ships of war, and a hostile environment. When they left, they named the only American on the Island as the Governor. The Spanish American War was over in Guam.
