"The will to believe" as in like James's previous title "The duty to belief"...
There r virtues in his work ,using this doctrine, adopting beliefs like God, freewill, possibility, and morality would cause evidence to come into existence, thus verifying beliefs that could not have been verified . But it falls apart at the point where he reasons that "morality" {the sense of what is right & what is wrong} stems from the world of men , existing in a Godless , Atheistic , Coincidental universe
For example throughout James' career, he would offer descriptions of what sort of empirical evidence would verify a metaphysical claim. Ultimately, James had never been very concerned with proving the existence of God. His main concern was justifying beliefs in freewill, possibility, pluralism, and in particular, in the possibility of morality.
A useful deduction we {as people who have faith in God can deduce} is that evidently "morality" is not created by "man" .It is instigated by God , our sense of right & wrong.
For example , the science of humanitarianism is all equalling & non discriminatory , to the point where same sex couples can legally cohabitate together , now if we pursued such an nimiety of openness and non discrimination by valuing that which is nothing more than sexual orientation , logically the next step would be to legalise paedophiles ! For in the Godless , Atheistic , world from where Jame's lecture stems from , there would be no obligation in stopping a , say for example , a 54 year old man from marrying & having sex with a 9 year old girl or boy , as a paedophile the 54 year old man would simply state that he is a law abiding citizen , that he pays his taxes , that this 9 year old & him have fallen in love and that this should be legally accepted by the law of the land.
From that we can deduce , that "morality" in the control of "man" could easily go awry , because in reasoning that there is no God, we fail to partake of a divine wisdom , that tempers our evolution in a civil intellectual society , creating this fabric of "morality".
Yes there is need to promote an all equalling society that is non discriminatory , but we must be careful , and in that prudence not cease our yearning for a better world but pray for guidance from that superior being that created the world.
Please remember that "science" {including such works as Jame's} is not against God , but the respective institutes that claim a monopoly on God , and there archaic peculiar customs , traditions , & superstitions
Reading ahead gives you an idea of what's coming next so you can get the information you need to understand that part.
i dont understand what you are asking!
I believe the main idea would be to attract and retain more young followers to the Christian faith.
Faith means to believe in or trust something (or an idea) that has not been proven, Also means belief, hope.
There is an idea in the Jewish faith that it is not necessary, or possible, to understand Hashem (God). Jews must do their best, and otherwise trust in God's wisdom and follow his ways to being good people.
Yes, if you have the right faith. It isn't the faith that does it it is the hard work that faith in a idea that somtimes can.
Judaism is based on the idea of informed consent. Jews are expected to understand why they believe and do what they do, not following blindly.
Christianity. Various denominations within the Kingdom will argue about what it takes, exactly-word for word to be saved. James argues " What good is it, my brothers, if a man claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can faith save him?" The answer is no. " As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead." When James says a person is not justified by faith alone, he means that a person is not justified by mental assent alone. As such, he says, " Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by what I do. You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that and shudder."
Here are some of the dividing beliefs:The concept of "Messiah" in Christianity is quite different from the concept in Judaism. The idea that a person can achieve salvation by what they believe in their headsThe idea that faith is more important than actionsThe idea that The Bible can be fully understood by reading only translations of it.The idea that there is an eternal hell
The sum of all positive integers in infinite. I am not sure how this particular idea is useful.
Seriously? You really have no idea? It's "Faith Hill" !
One misconception would be that Atheists are people of no faith. It takes just as much faith to deny the existence of a higher power as it does to acknowledge it. Not all atheists are "strong atheists" who deny the existence of god. Having said that, it does not take faith to deny the existence of unicorns, leprechauns, or the tooth fairy. The idea that you need faith to not believe in something is silly.
