Mental abuse is just as bad as physical abuse. You might want to discuss this with him if he is unaware of his actions towards you. You might want to seek counseling or shelter to help you understand this is not because of things that you might have done.

Remember that you cannot control what goes on in other people's mind, you can only control your own. Time has a way of vindicating people who are wronged. Let time be the judge. Feel sorry for those who believe him, forgive them and move on.

But, The FIRST thing you need to do is realize that if he beats you once, no matter how many times he cries and tells you he is sorry, and he'll never do it again, he will. You absolutely have to get away from him or you can expect a repeat performance.
