What is Armageddon about?

The final battle between Christ and His followers, and Satan and his followers. The ten kingdoms of the earth will team up with Satan in an attempt to defeat Christ in the Valley of Megeddo. Christ will win the final battle and cast all of Satan and his followers in to the Lake of Fire for all eternity. If you want a full description, read Revelation 20: 1-10.

The above is incorrect and comes from an esoteric Theosophist called John Nelson Darby (Protestantissue.net). Before Darby, who inheritted the above teaching, including the Rapture, from a Jesuit called Emmanuel Lacunza, the teaching was not widely accepted, on various grounds, one being that the devil cannot become incarnate, only God can be incarnate. The devil would have to take on flesh and blood in order to ride a horse to battle, and to handle a sword, and whilst he puts on his coat, his armies also become incarnate, whilst the angels of heaven equally become incarnate.

The actual battle of Armageddon took place at Calvary, Calvary, spiritually, is where the forces of darkness met the forces of light, Satan at the head of his armies, Jesus Christ at the head of His. And there the two armies fought the battle for souls, Jesus Christ going forth conquering and to conquer (Rev.6.2), having first descended to meet the armies of hell, and once He had defeated them, and let the prisoners of sin free from their prison houses, He ascended, leading captivity captive. No princes, only kings of the nether world took part in the battle, as the princes had done their part in delivering up Christ (1.Cor.2.8). As for Revelation chapter 20, that is fulfilled in Jesus Christ, the devil was bound, but has now been released for a season, which historically can be dated as being approximately the end of the 1700's. Literalists, that follow esoteric Darby, give a literal interpretation to chapter 20, until parts become difficult and then they spiritualize, so as to fit the story that they tell.
