Most all Christians will not go to a dictionary to understand the term but rather by watching or reading 'News' media, they will ascertain the meaning. In such a case, ISIS or ISIL is teaching Christians, particularly in the West, including Rome, that this 'archaic' term is being used by the most vile, vicious and ruthless terrorist faction the modern world has seen since Nazism and the Stalin purges in Russia - both within the mid-twentieth century. Christians hear of these terrorists cutting a Christian baby in half; killing by beheading of children and stuffing their severed heads on poles; burying 500 mothers and children alive; and surrounding thousands of Christian families onto a mount for safety but facing starvation, death from the elements or lack of medicine or slaughter - if they are caught they are beheaded. Savagery and deserving of elimination for the killing of innocents.
Additionally, Christians are bombarded with the reply that these are just a few in the Muslim world who practice terrorism and we should be tolerant of the majority. Christians still asking 'but where are the leaders of the Muslim world deploring ISIL's barbaric acts.'?The answer is 'silent for the most part.'
To a Christaian Jihad is evidence of the fallen state of man. Also it is evidence of actions that are not of God.
