Romanov was the ruling house ( Family) of Czarist Russia. They were in power froml6l3-l9l7. in l9l3 the 300Th anniversary for the Dynasty was celebrated. Celebrated Romanov rulers included Peter the Great, Catherine I and II (the latter being known as the Great-ruled for 32 years). Alexanders l-lll and Nicholas l and II Nicholas , of course the Last Czar. some historians and restoration sympathizers consider Grand Duke Michael who did survive Nich but not the revolutions, as a last, if nominal Czar. He saw considerable action in the Battlefield but never reigned as a Czar, a Garrison hat, yes, but not a Crown! Oddly the term Red Army was in use by the White Forces, as the elite striking unit of the Army-no doubt a referent to Mars- God of War- and Red the color of arm of service! Nichlolas Himself commanded the Red Army (prewar) in parades. of course after the revolution the adjective acquired comunist as well as martial conotations, but there was a Red Army in White Russia, an elite striking unit.
