You might get a bit more from someone who collects Olympic memorabilia, but it is just one ounce of silver to most numismatists or coin dealers and will be bought and sold very near the spot price of silver, which is currently $11.19.

Considering those coins have a $20 face value, I'd say your estimate is seriously off.

Do a search and you'll find collectors selling them for ~$24/each. They were sold individually, or as a 10-coin set in a green velvet case. The case had a pocket to hold all the certificates (1 for each coin, as well as 1 for the complete set). It also had a hole for either a Royal Canadian Mint logo/plug OR the 1987 $100 Olympic gold coin (which had 1/4 troy ounce of gold total... the coin was a bit more than 50% gold and won neumastic awards at the time for coin of the year).

By itself, without a cert or case... I'd guess US$18/CN$20... with the cert/case? Closer to US$22/CN$24.Silver, as with all commodities are tanking righ now (Nov 2008), but since it's bullion the face valve can help retain the market value (typical with silver bullion coins vs non-circulation stamped silver coins).

The US Mint also issued a 1988 Olympic Coin, but it's face value was only $5, and it contained only 0.76 troy oz of silver. Different story completely. ;)

It contains 33.63 grams of .925 'Sterling' silver which nets to 31.1 grams of ASW or exactly 1 troy ounce. You can not, however, sell this as .999 silver even though it contains 1 troy ounce
