One quick way to find categories that need descriptions is to look at the list of recently created categories.
Go to your blue toolbar on the left hand side of the screen and click "Browse Categories." On the right side of the screen will be a list of categories recently created, most of which probably don't have descriptions yet.
Otherwise, visit each category page and look at the top to see if a category is needed.
Remember, if you submit 50 category descriptions you get a "Green Thumb" badge on your bio page!

∙ 13y agoOn the blue left sidebar, click on 'Browse Categories' and search or browse for the category of your choice. Click on it. There should be a long green rectangle near the center of the page which has the name of the category, as well as the description underneath. If there is no description, it should say 'Suggest a description for this category!', and after clicking on it, you may write a 2-3 sentence long description by yourself, which will be submitted for review.

It's for suggesting a description for the category.If you click on the link saying "Suggest a description for this category," you will see a box that asks for "2-3 sentences describing this topic and the types of questions it should include."
Who approves and edits category descriptions?
Generally, Community Assistants approve and edit category descriptions. If you see a category without a description, you can e-mail your suggested category description to categories @ wikianswers.com (no spaces). In the subject line please specify your username and the number of category descriptions included in your e-mail.

How long will it take for a new category request to become a real category?

If you have completed the request form with detailed information (category description, where you want the category, how many questions there are about it), chances are it will get approved quicker than others.
