A device that represents information using the positional convention building on the binary digits 0 or 1. The underlying representation is based on two states where one state is used to denote 0 and the second to denote 1. Coding systems are then built using patterns/ combinations of binary digits.
A solenoid is not generally called digital but its function is binary, It is either on or off.

If you are classifying appliances, an internal combustion engine could be classified as analog because the more fuel you give it, the faster it runs. You could argue that a solenoid is also analog because the more electrical current you pass through it, the harder it locks up--just as a light bulb is generally considered binary unless you put a dimmer control on it.

If you were given this question as an assignment, it is one of those where there is no right or wrong answer. The teacher wants you to support your answer using terms and definitions that you had in the lesson.
