== == The Prime Meridian.
prime meridien at 0 meridian line or (or line of longitude)
The imaginary line at zero degrees longitude is the Prime Meridian. The imaginary line halfway between the poles is the Equator. The Equator is zero degrees latitude.
There are two meridians that satisfy that description:-- 90° west longitude, running from the north pole, through Canada, the USA, Central America,and Antarctica, to the South Pole.-- 90° east longitude, running from the north pole, through the Russian Federation, Bangladesh,the Indian Ocean, and Antarctica, to the South Pole.
A meridian, or a line of longitude.
The lines of longitude, also known as meridians, meet at the Earth's poles. They converge at the North Pole and the South Pole, forming a continuous line of longitude.
The major longitude is the Greenwich meridian. The other is the line of longitude on the opposite side of the earth - more or less the International Date Line. Except that it is not a straight pole-to-pole line.
0 degrees longitude, known as the Prime Meridian is a line running from the North Pole to the South Pole that passes through Greenwich England.
The 30-degree line of longitude passes through North America, Africa, and Australia.
If you followed the 70 W line of longitude north to the North Pole and then continued south, you would eventually end up on the 110 E line of longitude.
The word meridian applies to any line of longitude (runs from pole to pole).
The lines of longitude run from pole to pole.
If you pick a number between zero and 180, call it east or west, and then findall of the points on earth that have that longitude, you wind up with a line thatruns between the north pole and the south pole. The line is called the "meridian"of that longitude.
