There are numerous meanings for the word "master" and "masters". Here are a few examples, but this list can be expanded further.

1. One of the original meanings of Master was to denote the owner of a slave, or one that has control over another person or person.
2. Master is also one who has ownership of something, typically in reference to the individual's possession of knowledge. In many laboring occupations, a "Master level" meant the highest level of knowledge, for example, a Master Journeyman. A "Masters Degree" indicates a higher level of post-secondary education with only a Ph.D. being higher than a Masters degree.
3. In audio recording, a master is the original copy of a recording from which copies are made.
4. "To master" (usually a skill or knowledge) is to show sufficient and proficient knowledge or skill in a particular area. "The Master painter created a work of art that withstood all criticism."
5. In many religions, "Master" may refer to the leader / deity of that religion. For example, The Bible refers to Jesus Christ as the Master.
6. In being humorous, some people might refer to a male spouse as their Master. For example, a wife hears her husband calling and half sarcastically (but fondly) says, "Well I hear my master calling me--gotta go see what he wants."
