Hera is the wife of Zeus, but that didn't change the fact that he would go down to Earth and fall in love with hundreds of mortal girls and have hundreds of kids with them. Hera was furious, so she would threaten all Zeus's children and wives. One time she spotted a thunder cloud were no cloud should be. Zeus had a mortal girl named Io with him that he was trying to hide from Hera. When he saw Hera coming he quickly changed her into a beautiful cow. When Hera got there she acted like she suspected nothing. Hera asked him for the cow and Zeus knew he couldn't refuse his wife such a small gift so he gave her the cow. Hera tied the cow to a tree that was guarded by Hera's faithful servant named Argus who had 100 eyes all around his body and was huge and strong. Zeus felt sorry for her so he sent his son Hermes to release the cow. Hermes walked next to Argus disguised as a shepherd and played a little tune on his reed pipes. Argus enjoyed his company because he got lonely. Hermes told Argus a story that had no beginning and no end. Soon 50 of his eyes closed shut, then another 50 eyes closed shut. Hermes put a spell on Argus so he would never open his eyes again. Argus was bored to death. Hermes then released the cow. When Hera found out her faithful servant was dead and that the cow was gone she put his 100 eyes on her favorite animal, the peacock. She sent a huge gadfly that would sting the cow. The gadfly never stopped stinging the cow and the cow never stopped running away. She ran and ran around the world. In the end the cow was changed back into a girl and she became the queen of Egypt, but Zeus was forbidden from ever seeing her again.
