Answer . Your question assumes facts not in evidence. It's like asking, "Have you quit beating your dog?" If my only option is to answer "yes", or "no", then I would have to say "no", but that would lead one to believe that I have a dog and I still beat it... the truth is, neither is the case...… assuming facts not in evidence.\n. \nThe reality is, political parties look for mud to sling so that they can push the other party out of office. Do that often enough and loud enough, people start to believe and activists are formed. (MORE)

Anyone should hire an activist. Unless this is the job you are searching for in being an activist. I am not sure who would hire you as an activist, as most are on a volunteer basis. Not so much paid basis. Many groups that have a cause are non profits and the people that help them with the activ…ities of being an activist don't get paid for working as an activist, whether it be for picketing something or rallying or sending out flyers to the public on their cause on the street corner or in front of a public place. IF you are doing their accounting or answering their phones or something along the lines that you must get paid, then that would be different. You would get paid or should get paid unless they mention that they don't pay for such things. It also depends on the state you are living in as well and the non profit group that you support as an activist. And the cause you support as well. How big they are and if there are openings for paid employees. But most have nothing more then volunteer jobs to do. Now if you are an activist being discriminated against because you are an activist of a certain cause, trying to get a job with an employer, I would no longer put it on the job applications and see what happens. You may get hired. You don't have to share everything on a job application with an employer. I am an activist for children and elderly and animals. But I never put it on the job applications. And yes I have done many a rally and done flyers and put them out to the public as well, and been arrested for protesting many a time. But the cause was worth it and the laws got changed and that is all that mattered to me and the cause. So keep looking something may come along right up your alley! (MORE)

Jordan's first published book, Who Look at Me (1969) was a collection of poems for children. 27 more books followed in her lifetime, one ( Some of Us Did Not Die , Collected and New Essays ) was in press when she died. Two more have been published posthumously: Directed By Desire: The Collected …Poems of June Jordan (Copper Canyon Press, 2005) and a re-issue of the 1970 poetry collection SoulScript , edited by Jordan. In her memoir Soldier: A Poet's Childhood , Jordan depicted in detail her relationship with her father in the book and was happy with the outcome stating, "I wanted to honor my father, first of all, and secondly, I wanted people to pay attention to a little girl who is gifted intellectually and creative, and to see that there's a complexity here that we may otherwise not be prepared to acknowledge or even search for, let alone encourage, and to understand that this is an okay story. This is a story, I think, with a happy outcome, you know". She was also an essayist, columnist for The Progressive , novelist, biographer, and librettist for the musical/opera I Was Looking at the Ceiling and Then I Saw the Sky , composed by John Adams and produced by Peter Sellars. When asked about the writing process of I Was Looking at the Ceiling and Then I Saw the Sky Jordan states, "The composer, John [Adams], said he needed to have the whole libretto before he could begin, so I just sat down last spring and wrote it in six weeks I mean, that's all I did. I didn't do laundry, anything. I put myself into it 100 percent. What I gave to John and Peter [Sellars] is basically what Scribner's has published now." Jordan's teaching career began in 1967 at the City College of New York. Between 1968 and 1978 Jordan taught at Yale University, Sarah Lawrence College, and Connecticut College. Jordan then became the director of The Poetry Center and was an English professor at SUNY at Stony Brook from 1978 to 1989. From 1989 to 2002 she was a full professor in the departments of English, Women Studies, and African American Studies at the University of California Berkeley. At Berkeley Jordan founded Poetry for the People in 1991. The program inspires and empowers students to use poetry as a means of artistic expression. It depends on what you mean by "activist". Like many black artists of her era, Billie Holiday suffered a significant amount of racial prejudice. However, given her personal demons with a severe narcotics addiction problem, she had very little interest in what we now call activist activities. However…, when presented with the song "Strange Fruit" she saw that the lyrics of the song would give her the opportunity to make a very strong, public statement against racism Nevertheless, the lyrics of the song were so controversial at the time that she took a lot of advice before recording it. Despite some very negative responses from a certain racist section of the public, the overall response to the song was favourable and she included in the repertoire of her live performances for the remainder of her life.
