A card catalog is a library resource, although they are becoming increasingly obsolete. The catalog usually consist of upright cabinets filled with many long narrow drawers. The drawers are filled with small cards. The subject cards are sorted by subject, as the name implies. They have information on them such as the author, title, and a location number as well. These cards assist in helping the reader locate the book of their choice, or identify what books are available on a particular subject. The reason this system is becoming obsolete is advances in technology. Many libraries have computer systems in place that simplify this process.
