First off you need to know basic hacker lingo,
a "Crack" is a program that's designed to work outside it's specifications, say a no CD crack which allows you to use a pirated program with a Virtual Drive when you would typically require a disc.
What you're talking about is a product key generation program, most programs are protected by activation codes that you would only have by legally buying it, a key gen hacks the file and alters it to accept a code that it generates and then gives to you.
Using a keygen is illegal and looked down upon, they should not be used. The right and legal thing to do is to buy the desired program and use it within its Terms and Conditions.
