A sidelock shotgun is exactly as it sounds. The locks are on the side of the stock instead of inside the action. A box lock has the hammer, sears, springs etc inside the action itself, side locks are primarily separate. They are attached to the action on the back and sides of it in the wood and the hammer, sears springs etc are contained therein. They can be detached without removing the action from the stock.
Depends on if it is sidelock or boxlock. Generally, 1916-1948. sales@countrygunsmith.net
They refer to the type of action.
Will need to know exactly how the shotgun is marked, sidelock or boxlock, what gauge, etc. Lefever went through several changes, ending up as part of Ithaca. sales@countrygunsmith.net
Impossible to say without a lot more information. It could be worth anywhere from a couple of hundred dollars to several thousand depending on the type of gun (boxlock, sidelock) and condition. Go to www.doublegunshop.com and ask there. British shotguns are very collectable and Hollis is a respected maker.
1876 westly Richards boxlock what is it worth?
Goro Saberl boxlock in 3" magnum sellls abetween $300 and $400 used. New they are approx $800 to $1000 Made in Spain, and company was taken over by the larger gun manufacturer of A.Y.A. You will pay double this price for a more sofisticated sidelock, which has build in ejectors. The feature here is also, that when the gun is loaded and ready to go, the screws on the side kick turn, so the handler can see it is ready cocked to shoot. I personally can do without this later feature, as when your in the bush, its loaded anyway, and you know your good to go. If your going to hunt with it, a boxlock is fine, if you want it for collection and looking to show it off, the sidelock is a much nicer looking, but as far as shooting they are relatively the same. Hope this helps. JVS
Between 1902 and 1914. If its a sidelock, between 1906 and 1909.
In the book I'm looking at, it doesn't distinguish between the 2. (I'm not that familiar, just looking in a book (gun list standard catalog of firearms) sidenote- It says your BSS sidelock (and there are several different types of BSS guns) was actually manufactured in Korea b/t 1983 and 1987. Miroku produced guns were imported and produced by a variety of companies such as Charles Daley, Browning, Winchester, and SKB. No actual guns are listed Miroku B.C. brand guns. If one gun says Browning made in Japan, and the other gives the Miroku brand name on the gun, but both are made for Browning, then I think you just are looking at different production years. Hope this helps. -Rick Yes. The sidelock is recognized as a better action than a boxlock. Also, the boxlock came in a plain field grade while the sidelock came with better wood and engraving.
This is a Browning Side by Side shotgun (Double Barrel) for a 20 Gauge shotshell. The production of the BSS side-by-side shotgun began in 1978. The Sidelock model was introduced in 1983. Production ceased in 1987.
Depending on manufacturer and model of gun it would be a 209 shotgun primer for inline guns or a #11 for sidelock guns.
