The usual use of rhyme involves the last word in a line, for example,

"Roses are red, That's what I said."

But you can have words that rhyme within a line (hence are internal) for example,

"The light of day, The bright of noon"

"I was sad because my dad,

Made me eat every beet."

(although here, they could be AABB using shorter lines)

Shakespeare used rhymed couplets in iambic pentameter. Iambic pentameter is five beats per line. A couplet would usually convey a complete thought and could be described as a sentence in poetry.

Alas, that love, whose view is muffled still,

Should, without eyes, see pathways to his will!

not iambic pentameter, but a couplet still
