The way to get your blu ray disc to play in 1080i on a blu ray player set up to a sony bravia HDTV or hdtv is you just put it in the blu ray player when you have the tv and blu ray player ready to play it, just put it in close it and it takes a minute for it to load, then it starts up, then it plays and then skip all the previous if you want, some of the previous may not let you skip them, then once your on the main menu there is the choice to play it or go to the main menu. if you you want the main menu, then just click it and it'll take you right to it. if you want to play the movie then click play movie!. It's as easy as that said here in this reply by me but, let me just give you some smart advise, and that is don't buy any more standard dvds because eventually the blu ray discs are gonna take over hddvd and standard DVD because blu ray discs have oddicial won the DVD vs. hddvd vs. blu ray war!!! =). so for any ofyou people out there whos already gotten hddvds and not blu rays, I'm sorry to say, your gonna seriously have to start re-buying all of you hddvds and DVD all completely on blu ray discs!. O!, and one last thing to tell you all all blu rays luckily are in widescreen!, which means it shows the entire picture but might have the black bars on top and bottem if the disc case for the blu rau disc says widescreen it'll have the black bars on top and bottem but, here is the catch to it!, if it says enhanced for widscreen television it wont have the back bars but it'll still be widecreen and it'll show the whole picture and covering the whole screen!!!.

What do you need to watch Blu-ray discs in 1080i?

A Blu-Ray player is the first requirement. To watch the content in high definition, an HD television with an HDMI connection is needed but a Bluray player can also be connected to a standard definition television using the analog connections. The benefit of HD will be lost, but you are still able to watch the content.

What does the i mean in 1080i?

1080i is a term related to high-definition televisions. The 'i' in 1080i stands for 'interlaced', meaning the TV draws lines and interlaces them to show the whole picture. The '1080' in 1080i means there are 1080 lines of resolution.

If a sony blu ray player is set up at 1080p and is set up to a HDTV at 1080i will it play a blu ray disc with high definition sound and picture?

I have a sony bluray player conected to my tv by a hdmi cable only it wont work can anyone help me --------------- Go into the menu and set the output resolution to either 720p or 1080i and it should work on any HDTV that's not 1080p. If it doesnt, don't use an HDMI cable - use Red/Green/Blue (Component Video) cables to hook up to the TV. It will work fine at 720p. You will also need to connect additional red and white cables for sound.

The top resolution output from a Blu-ray player and disc is?

What are the compatibilities of a Blu-ray disc playing on a Blu-ray player set to play in 1080i on a 1080i HDTV?

yes but can you play 1080 i through component on newer discs? supposedly im reading with the upconverters and newer discs you cant to prevent pirating its only possible on dvi and hdmi. The compatibilities are that blu ray disc basically will play in a blu ray player in 1080i on a 1080i hdtv !, I figured out today that, that is the answer to this question because I own a blu ray player set to play 1080i blu ray discs and I baught pirates of the Caribbean 1, 2 and 3 on blu ray today and saw all of them and they all work on a 1080i hdtv with a blu ray player set to play in 1080i instead of 1080p because I don't have the newer version of the sony bravia hdtv which is the 1080p, what I have is a sony bravia 1080i hdtv!. I hope this answer helps other people out who where in my same situation! with hdtv and blu ray player hooked up together.

Does Blu-ray work with 720P?

Bluray handles all HD formats. As 720p is one of the HD formats, it will play it without a problem. Bluray will also handle 1080i and 1080p formats as well as standard definition. Depending on the set up of the player, the output will be in the format recorded on the disc or it may convert all formats to a single format such as 1080p. As an HD television will also handle any of the formats, it is worth experimenting with the set up to see if 720p discs are displayed better when the player outputs the native format or in a converted format.

Do satellite tv companies put out a 1080i signal?

If you subscribe to the HD service. Otherwise you might only get a standard definition picture.
