A Covalent bond is a form of chemical bonding that is characterized by the sharing of pairs of electrons between atoms, and other covalent bonds. In short, the attraction-to-repulsion stability that forms between atoms when they share electrons is known as covalent bonding.

Covalently bonded simply means that two or more atoms are sharing electrons amongst themselves so they balance the number of electrons in their outermost shells forming bonds.

It is similar for ionic bonds where they need to balance their outermost shells however in that situation they completely donate and receive electrons causing a change in the electrical polarity becoming ions where some are positive and others are negative and due to opposite attraction come together and bond.
