An open term philosophically speaking but generally ascribed to aesthetically pleasing works in the fine arts. I personally consider much of what is generally understood as "art" as more properly termed craft... not a lesser term but rather work done to esthetic standards know to be broadly appealing whereas art demonstrates a new way of viewing the world... often disturbing rather than pleasing as the limits of the new idea are found in the medium become discovered the art refines into craft.
