Best Answer

It show dimension of given dig. Ex. length meter etc.

chain dimensioning as opposed to datum dimensioning.

chain dimensioning:

4 holes in line on a drawing, first hole position dimensioned from the edge,

remainder dimensioned from the centre of the previous hole.

datum dimensioning:

all holes dimensioned from the edge.

the cumulative tolerance build up on the chain dimensioning allows for greater overall tolerance build up.

A dimension is a measurable extent of some kind, such as length, breadth, depth, or height It is best illustrated as a direction in which one can move. In our 3-dimensional world, we can move up and down (height) left and right (width) and nearer and farther (depth). There is also the dimension of time which allows for movement and change to take place but currently it is believed that time moves in only one direction (referred to as time asymmetry) and so really only counts as half a dimension.

A single point, which is unable to move, is the 0th dimension, a line is 1 dimensional, as you can only move along its length, a plane (like a piece of paper) is 2-dimensional as you can move left or right and up or down along its surface and a solid is 3-dimensional, having height, width and depth.

Dimensions are what we measure size in. The first is length/height, the second is width/breadth, the third is depth and the fourth is time. Movies have three dimensions which are length, width and time. A picture has only two and a line on paper supposedly has one and real life has all four.

What is baseline dimensioning?

Baseline dimensioning is a method of dimensioning in technical drawings where all dimensions are referenced from a single baseline, reducing the chance of errors due to accumulation of tolerances. It helps to maintain clarity and consistency in the layout of dimensions on a drawing.
