Etching on headstones is generally called gravestone inscriptions. They can say just about anything. It is recommended that detailed inscriptions reflect something about the character of the person.
On Susan B. Anthony's headstone it reads, simply:
Susan B. Anthony
February 15, 1820
March 13, 1906
The last line is worn but should say something like "
"In the 86th year of her life"
or
"86 years of age"
During the 2016 Presidential Elections, hundreds of people put "I Voted" stickers on Susan B. Anthony's headstone. This is considered vandalism and defacement of public property. Adhesive stickers damage the sandstone used to make grave monuments. It removes lichens and algae which live on the stone's surface, and thus, removing the adhesive makes it easier for weathering to deteriorate the stone's surface. For the same reasons, headstones should never be washed, powerwashed, or cleaned in any way.
