The way i look at it a fad is when something looks great at first but with furthur analysis it seemed pointless. For example: in the 80's neon colors were really cool but as we look back at it there wasnt anything cool about looking like a stop light. that was fad fashion.

A "fad" is something that comes and goes. In the fashion world, "fads" are constantly recycling themselves and obtaining more angles. For example, popular eighties styles (i.e. skinny jeans) are coming back in style with their own tweaks. Also, sixties flower child looks are back- but in a more refined way.
