To Kill a Mockingbird is from the perspective of a young girl named Jean Louise Finch, or Scout Finch. The book follows her growing up alongside her brother, Jem, her friend Dill, and her father Atticus. It is a novel about maturing. The first major event involves the kids fascination with a mysterious shut in named Arthur (Boo) Radley. They attempt to make him leave his house and are in wonder about why he never does. The next event would be Jem being forced to read to an elderly woman named Mrs. Dubose after he destroys her garden. From this experience Jem discovers what true bravery is, when he sees Mrs. Dubose fight her morphine addiction. Another major event is a trial between races. An African American man named Tom Robinson is falsely charged for a rape he did not commit. Through this experience Scout and Jem learn to never give up, despite all odds.
There are two more major events but I will leave them alone to avoid ruining the book. For a terrific short summary of the book, see the related links below.
