Background Investigations are conducted by companies to know a person better. If the person or subject is a job applicant, the company wants to confirm if the information that was provided to them were correct or not. Essentially, a BI will involve verifying the identity and character, history and location of the subject. BIs may be covert or not.

In order to run a background check someone needs to have access to your social security number. This is because your social is soley yours were as if you've ever searched the internet you know that more then one person can have your name. With out your social that background checker has to figure out which one is you...it's hard but works the same way. After this they have your entire record with everything you've ever written your social on.
