It is to kill something out of mercy, like puting something out of its misery EX: dog gets hit by a car and is going to die soon and there is nothing you can do to fix it so you kill it to end its pain, that is consiterd as , a mercy kill. sorry did'nt fully read the question but in federal law.. if its a person i dont think they do that, but in a case of an animal i dont think the police will do anything if you kill it to end its pain.

No, there is no mercy in mercy killing because you don't have to kill that human or animal even if it can't talk. You don't know what they need, maybe they are saying they need to go to the bathroom, and you are thinking that they are suffering, but you have no choice but killing, even if you can't understand that man/woman/animal

Answer

Mercy killing is perfectly fine, as long as you are completely sure that the person/animal wants you to kill it. Some people may not be able to go through with it, and this is also ok.

Answer

Actually there is mercy in mercy killing because you kill someone out of pity. For example, you see a dog on the street about to die. You kill it just to end its pain (that is mercy killing or in other words, euthanasia (from Ancient Greek, meaning "good death").

Many times the cause of a mercy killing is sympathy. It is the simple desire to end despair and suffering in another human.
