In the old days Jews used to sacrifice an animal which was spotless as a sustitue for their sins. But after the death of christ on the cross at calvary the blood of Jesus is enough to wash our sins away.

A variety of things. It can mean human sacrifice, where a person is killed in honour of something. An animal killed for the same reason. It could be someone sacrificing themselves to save another person. You could sacrifice anything, like a holiday to stay with someone who is ill. A promotion at work to let someone else get it. Sacrifice is a term used to to give up something that is valued to you.
